“Centennial Mountain is a new range from Rhys that takes the place of Aeris. In short, all the Aeris wines have now been folded into Centennial Mountain, while the Italian Aeris wines have been discontinued. In my view, that greater focus is going to be a positive. The 2021s are seriously impressive across the board.”

2021 Centennial Mountain Reserve

The 2021 Reserve is superb. A blast of dark fruit, leather, cedar, menthol and licorice saturates the palate. There’s plenty of tannin and acid, but that is pretty much buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. The 2021 spent one year in French oak barrels and a second year in cask. A whole range of oral and savory overtones extend the finish beautifully.” 95 Points: Outstanding. A wine of remarkable personality and breed that is well worth seeking out

“Publisher’s Picks”

“A blend of the vineyard’s five varieties on Centennial Mountain’s schist soils: Nebbiolo, Nerello Mascalese, Carignane, Zinfandel, and Barbera. Magnified aromas include violets, red licorice, and black cherry. Anisette notes are pleasant, leaving behind a slick, herbal sweetness on the palate.

Violets, Mediterranean scrub, and an underscore of chalk gain momentum in this elegantly structured red with a finish of cherry liqueur.” 94 Points: Outstanding

Vinography

“Dark garnet in the glass, this wine smells of cherries, strawberries, and a touch of licorice root. In the mouth, juicy bright acidity makes flavors of strawberry and cherry mouthwatering on the palate as a cloud of powdery tannin fills the mouth and surrounds the core of fruit. Hints of dried herbs and dried flowers linger in the finish as the tannins stiffen and grip the palate. Excellent acidity marries to a nice stony quality. A blend of Nebbiolo, Nerello Mascalese, Carignan, Primitivo, and Barbera.” 9 out of 10 Points
